Control of Contagious Diseases

Brief Description

The livestock policy in Sri Lanka aims at increasing the production level of livestock and availability of livestock products in the country so that consumption level of animal protein could be increased to reach the required recommendation while ensuring the uplift in the income of livestock farmers. Contagious diseases namely Foot and mouth disease, Black Quarter and Haemorrhagic Septicaemia have been endemic the country and causing not only death of animals but also significantly reduce the production capacity in terms of growth rate and milk production

Objectives

1. Mitigate the annual prevalence of Black Quarter and Hemorrhagic septicemia.

2. Reduce the occurrence of Foot and Mouth Disease by 10%.

 3. Prevent the occurrence of udder inflammation.
