Imported animals, animal products and animal by products are inspected by the animal quarantine officials  at the port of entry .

At the stage of clearance, if the imported consignment and its respective documents, comply with the requirement stipulated by the Department of Animal Production and Health, a recommendation is given to the Customs by Animal Quarantine Officers.

Every animal imported into Sri Lanka shall be subject to quarantine for a minimum period of thirty days under the section 28 of Animal Diseases Act no 59 of 1992.
