Livestock Planning & Economics

The Livestock Planning and Economics (LPE) Division is responsible for planning, monitoring and evaluation of livestock development programs and activities implemented by the department to support development of the livestock sector in Sri Lanka. LPE division also maintains the national level database to collect and compile livestock statistics and data which are accessible to the public and to policy makers, researchers and university students. Livestock Planning and Economics (LPE) Division also responsible for data analysis and preparation of reports and publish information bulletins on Livestock Sector.

Main Functions

• Identification and formulation of livestock development programs and projects.
• Monitoring, evaluation and economic analysis of livestock development programs and projects of the department.
• Conduct economic studies to assess feasibility and viability of livestock development programs and projects.
• Periodic review of livestock industry and identify issues that need to be addressed for policy formulation.
• Management of livestock data base at National level.
• Coordinate livestock development programs with provincial DAPH and other state institutions and organizations.
• Coordinate implementation of government policy in the department.

Economic & Statistical Unit

• Collection of data and information, updating database and preparation of reports.
• Preparation and publication of publications
• Dissemination of Information.
• Management of data bank.
• Conduct Surveys and Studies
• Inter-departmental coordination
• Maintain Livestock Farm Registration Database.

Program Review Unit

• Preparation of Physical and financial Report of development project and program, Organize Progress monitoring meetings.
• Provincial progress review through Master return
• Organize Provincial Director meetings Quarterly basis.

Environment Unit

• Identification of environmental issues related to livestock farms
• Advice and guidance to overcome environmental issues
• Coordinate with Environment Ministry and other organization   
• Organize and coordinate Environment Committee meetings
• Publish Environmental  related guidelines

Information Technology Unit

• Update and maintain the official web site of the Department.
• Development of Management Information System solutions and web applications for the departmental operations and activities.
• Provision of email service to the staff of the department
• Implementation of E-government program by coordinating with relevant organization
• Provide technical assistance on procurement of computer hardware and software
• Contribute to Training of the department staff to increase the IT literacy
