This center was started in 1975 with the financial assistance of Sri Lanka Swiss Livestock Development Project in order to cover up Artificial Insemination Service in Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara and Trincomalee Districts.

The total land area belongs to this center is 60 acres and nearly 10 acres are occupied by buildings (Office, cattle sheds officers and labor quarters etc,) and 50 acres consist of developed pasture lands.

At the moment 8 bulls are kept as semen donors. The breeds maintained at this center are Sahiwal and Murrah. Apart from this the training of Artificial insemination technicians is also carried out at this center.

Under the fodder and pasture development program an extent of 25 acres of pasture nurseries have established for issue of planting materials.
